Carina Freitas was born in Funchal, Portugal on August 18th 1976, to a very musical family.

The first music festival she attended was IV Festival da Canção Infantil da Madeira (Children's Song Festival of Madeira) in 1985.

1994 saw Carina begin her medical career when she started her studies at the Oporto School of Medicine. Her study was completed in July 2000. During this time she joined the soprano class of the classic chorus Orfeão Universitário do Porto.

Carina returned to Madeira between 2001 and 2002 to complete her general medicine internship.

From 2003 to May 2008, Carina lived in Lisbon when she furthered her medical education. She studied at Dona Estefânia Hospital to become a children and adolescent psychiatrist. During this time Carina attended a master course in Neuroscience at the Lisbon School of Medicine. She was also tutored in singing by Prof Maria Cristina de Castro.

Between 1999 and 2005 she was involved with the Festival da Canção do Faial (Faial Song Festival) – Madeira. At this festival she participated as a writer, composer and, whenever possible, as a singer.

She has been a member of Sociedade Portuguesa de Autores (Portuguese Authors Society) since 1999 and a member of SOPEAM (Portuguese Society of Medical Artists and Writers) since 2002.

Currently, she practices psychiatry at the Children and Adolescent Psychiatry Service at the Hospital Central do Funchal.
